Wow! This album is great. Seems like 5 different bands wrapped up in one. So far I'm really digging the title track, Highly Suspicious, I'm Amazed, Thank You Too, Two Halves, Aluminum Park...well most all of it actually! Great listen and it gets better each time. -- g44style
I'm a little surprised by your critique betty. To me - it's certainly a stretch for them and not all are going to like it but I think it's terrific. It's no "Z" but I like it more than "It Still Moves".
i must admit that i think Evil Urges stinks. i gave it many more chances than i normally do with other albums i don't like within the first few listens because i love MMJ's other albums, but i cannot listen to it anymore. 1/3 of it is soft rock best served on AM radio from the 70s, another 1/3 is some sort of disco/prince hybrid sung in an unlistenable falsetto and the rest is their brand of rock, but written sans inspiration. and i'm very unsure what the deal with the lyrics is: if i was listening to ween, i'd know it was a joke, but is jim james serious with some of this crap? when i saw these guys live a few months ago, i thought the songs were incredibly boring, especially butted up against their other material, which is soooooo much stronger, now i just think the songs are actually bad. oh well.
LOVE the black cab sessions! such a great idea. just watched it and yes, i agree that Touch Me...part 2 is the best song. took notice of Jim's smart overcoat he's wearing, as well. nice. ( ;
Anyone interested who doesn't have/want the leak of the album - My Morning Jacket is streaming it on their myspace page prior to next Tuesday's release.
