What f10 users are saying about Only By The Night:
Ok, so the Kings cut their hair...Pete cut his hair. The Kings wear jeans so tight you can see their packages, Pete's jeans look like theyre painted on. A little more moody, more experimental, but still siiiiiiiiiiiick. Just like my boy Pete. -- pharrell
Regardless of Pitchfork's review, it was still pretty weak. I'm pretty disappointed as a big KoL fan and was hoping for something better. There are a few great songs but a lot of it is just stock. I was kind of excited for the perfect consummation of their southern rock with the U2 arena rock on this one, but they didn't really pull it off sadly. However, I hope this is one that grows on you.
Man, I think Caleb nailed the reviewer's mom or something. On "Revelry" (which I happen to like): "It's basically "The One I Love" with no riff and no irony."
I'm not sure that anyone listens to Kings of Leon for the lyrical content. You dig the southern rock and caleb's crazy voice.
This album is quite good in my opinion. KoL just got too big for Pitchfork.
Pitchfork has panned almost all of their albums although they are closer to the truth (albeit too harsh) on this one.
The first five songs are terrific - then they wander the rest of the way through with only a few bright glimpses. It's worthy of my albums of the moment but not much else as I'm somewhat disappointed in the album.
