It's been really difficult to chose between DC and MMJ for the number one spot. I loved this one at the very first listen. "i will possess your heart" is all sexy instrumental at first and then he comes in 5 mins in with these sort of disturbing, stalker-ish, but super hot, lyrics. Talking Bird is great and Bixby Canyon Bridge. it's all good stuff. yay!
I'm officially addicted. Thank You Too & Librarian are my standout tracks thus far. Evil Urges and Touch Me I'm Going To Scream are sooooo awesome. I just skip over Highly Suspicious - it annoys me. Their lyrics are totally real & sweet and the music is totally sexy - my favorite combo. Touch Me...Part II = meow.
Eric Garrett, Rolando Panerai, Cesare Andrea Bixio, Eduardo di Capua, Salvatore Cardillo, Robin Centonze Michele / Smith, Ernesto de Curtis, Lucio Dalla, Gaetano Donizetti, Luciano Pavarotti
I know opera isn't for everyone, but you might change your mind when you hear Pavarotti's mythical voice of the Gods. Listen to track 17 - Nessun Dorma, an aria from Puccini's opera Turandot (a MUST see). Close your eyes, turn it up. No!-better yet put headphones on & let the master possess your soul for 3 beautiful mins. It leaves my heart racing, overwhelmed & reduced to tears everytime.
Sarah Vaughan is one of the great ladies of jazz & of my top three to include Billie Holiday & Carmen McCrae. I love hearing her versions of the standards, how she improvises like none other & damn can the girl scat.
This is along the lines of Pink Martini, but sexier...moodier. Makes me really nostalgic for the time I spent in Paris & surrounding areas. I don't smoke anymore, but when this comes on, I always want to sit outside, smoke Gaulloises, sipping un café créme w/a pain au chocolat. Me prendre là !
In a Safe Place led me to Into the Blue Again. This is just great therapy right here. It's on when I need to escape & think & feel & write & be left alone in my bubble. Ahhhh....
I'm a total francophile, so I'm always discovering & adding French music to my collection; jazz, retro, lounge & the contemporary stuff the French hear over the airwaves. Keren Ann is hard to classify - she's a little folkie w/an edge, but...she's bluesy w/an old jazz sound...but you could totally imagine hearing her in some bossa nova lounge setting. This album is sexy & moody & I love her voice.
Concur with both of you. I listened non-stop to Narrow Stairs yesterday and liked alot of it. Went away from it for the evening, come back today and the absence was good. Now I just bask in this album today loving all of it. In day 2, it now takes a leap over Evil Urges which is terrific in its own right. Although not my favorite, I still listen and dig "Highly Suspicious".
I concur. Although, I prefer Plans over Trans, but I think we had this exact conversation about 4 years ago over IM at CNET. Didn't know you got tix! Jealous.
Evil Urges and Narrow Stairs are a great 1-2 release combo. I haven't enjoyed two albums back to back in a long time. I wasn't that excited about MMJ so it was a total bonus. Narrow Stairs so far for me is better than Plans but not better than Transatlanticism. I'm sure that'll change soon though. Great great stuff. Can't wait to see them in June.
I dig this list except for "A Northern Soul" - but I can accept that one.
But... Tonight That I Might See? Hope Sandoval's voice is great but the songwriting on that disc is awful. I threw that CD out last week in a purging of mistakes along with my Busta Rhymes and Deep Forest. Crap. I just admitted buying Busta Rhymes.
I'm also a big fan of Nina Simone's After Hours which I'm sure has some songs on the Anthology.
