xian's Favorite 10 Albums of All Time
1.
Nirvana
The Dude abides.
Overall Rank: 20
2.
Love and Rockets
Trains and rhythm. The journey. Nirvana before Nirvana. The Head in Radiohead. Rock handed over to you with an utter hipness and obvious brilliance. 'Take this album. Have faith in guitar. Behold the drum. It's good for you too.' Just say thank you.

New Order
New Order has always been electric in many ways. This album has that bridging effect of a capacitor. It's insulated. You can tell where they were musically from Ian to the release of Blue Monday. A pitch toward Pop in exclusivity while remaining open. I think that it could have done without the track "the Village" but that's what great albums do sometimes.

The White Stripes, White Stripes
NPR darlings, the White Stripes: sit like the invention of Apple Pie. Still my fav Stripe album but that's like saying I like the one with Black, White and Red on the cover.

5.
The Beatles
Punk Beatles acting out. Growing up on the inside.

Underworld
I may actually like Dub No Bass With My Head better but Beaucoup Fish like most of the Tomato farm is a sonic bed of velvet sheets with pillows of green grass, under a tall cypress in Monaco, in the spring, by the fountain, next to the car, pass the scooter. King of Snake.

7.
The Pretenders
Crissy. You've been misbehaving. You've been seen in London with 2 viscounts tearing up your chambers with no regard to common decency. Shame on you. Such immorality. Oh dear. Oh my my. Don't play 'Tatooed Love Boys' around your mother.

8.
Blur
More about girls who are boys and boys who are girls with the parklife. It's drool. It fears no tinsel. Enigmatic pop. BBC happening. Check out the track Bank Holiday.

9.
The Police
I fear the Ghost. I have bought this album so many times and every time I get it in my possession it disappears. I'm not kidding. I'm afraid to upload it. I afraid my whole hard drive will just run off. But I really really want to buy it. I might have picked the Specials or XTC - Black Sea or The Jam - Beat Surrender or The The - Soul Mining but they weren't available so now I'm left with Sting.

The Who
The unwritten movie. Not Quadrophenia, and as an aging mod (thanks DKhan) I have to say this one does more for me now. The themes are really too broad to roll the songs all into one cinematic venture. As musically divergent as the players walking from the urinal-ed monolith on the cover, Who's Next is back to front the Zoso of Who albums.
