genre jumping indie rock. at any given moment the album can sound like the beatles, queen, flaming lips, world music or prog rock. there are a couple great epics on this record.
indie rock meets world music. didn't vampire weekend and yeasayer already cover this ground? sure, but those albums pale in comparison with this exceptional album that also relies on heavy Beach Boys influence. you'll be lost at the beach without this record.
if you haven't heard of Wolf Parade, drop everything and go buy their debut LP, Apologies to the Queen Mary. it was, by far, the best album of 2005 and i never tire of it. this album isn't as good as their debut, but it's growing on me.
alternative-experimental folk. if you know Animal Collective and imagined them doing a reverse Dylan by going all acoustic, then you might start to get the idea.
if you like Animal Collective, clayton, you should check out Panda Bear's album Person Pitch. Panda Bear is one of the guys from Animal Collective and it is has its own weirdness, but it has a more Beach Boys touch to it, if that makes any sense at all.
i think it's a solid album from beginning to end. i find myself turning the volume up when one of their songs comes on my list. i saw them live at SXSW and was wowed. they are simply terrific musicians and that gave me more of an appreciation of the album. it certainly is not going to change the face of music, but it's a fun listen.
betty - only have heard one song from the Whigs album but I like it. Is the whole album solid? Do you see it fading from your list or climbing some more with time?
