Updated on 06JUN08 - I probably listen to this one more thant anything else at this point and I'd move it to number one if I didn't think that Bon Iver was absolute genius.
I wasn't thrilled after the first listen but after my most recent road trip last week, and a few start to finish listens, I can say it gets my stamp of approval (whatever that's worth?
Added on 06JUN08 - This one took me a while to get in to. I kept hearing Bad Company and a myriad of other 70's rock super groups; the types I used to hear so much of on WDVE (Pittsburgh) as a youngster, and I couldn't get past it. I'm glad I finally did.
Certainly doesn't have the energy of the previous album, but it's probably going to stay in my rotation for a while anyway. I don't know what it is about these guys that gets me, but it do.
It’s a bit melancholy but wonderfully done. I have to take in small doses in order to avoid depression. Of course, if you’re already depressed, it could be a great companion.
Been listening to this one for a couple of weeks now. It's growing on me. Interesting sound if a bit frenetic. We'll see if it doesn't wear off as fast as it was worn on.
Reminds me of old times and yet it's new. Have R.E.M.: a) gone back to their roots? b) polished off some old songs written but never recorded? c) finally given up trying to do soemthing new on every album?
