I think your all time list is *your* all time list, so however you define that is up to you. Good stuff though. I think making your favorite all time list is very tough to do. I have a hard enough time with just the single year lists. Like somehow I'm letting down some other favorite artists/bands because I can't make it my favorite 14.
Yeah, maybe I didnt explain myself properly. I still reckon these are the albums I HAVE listened to most. Full stop. Haven't listened to a few of them in quite a while but I know I will return to them. I may listen to Blonde On Blonde occasionally but I'm more likely to just listen to a couple of my top Bob tracks.
I think putting an album in because it's a "great album" though you've listened to it only a handful of times and it's pretty much fallen off your radar in recent years is a bit false. No matter how worthy it is or how much it may have influenced the stuff you do return to time and again. Not saying that's what anyone on here has done! :)
Well, there's a difference between your albums of the moment and your albums of all time. I think it's ok to put stuff on Albums of All Time that you might not be reaching for lately.
For example, right now I love Narrow Stairs. But is it really better than Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here (even though I haven't listened to that in > month)? Not really.
Yeah, my first attempt was all credible originators with a beatles, waits, neil young et al but I felt it was cheating. Sure they are brilliant artists but what albums do I really listen to most? See above. I may be a phillistine but with those kinds of people, I tend to listen to mixes I've made from across careers rather than individual albums. Being painfully honest, I guess.
