Steve - The Deerhoof album that I have been listening to is "Friend Opportunity." It is from 2007 (I think). Might take a couple hearings to get into.

Thanks for the tip on "Dark is the Night." I'll pick it up on the way home.

I'm sure your fantasy team will make a run. I thought it was a good team from the beginning. The Yahoo computer did a pretty good job of drafting.

I'm getting psyched for the draft - as I know you are. I'm going to be setting up another contest (which I think you have won in the past) on the SportsColumn board. Hope you'll join.

Also hope things are going well for you. Thanks for your messages! - Len

Vin's going through a deduping process right now. Hope to have the DB up to date over the next week.

I think that's terrific. In fact I e-mailed you and Vin to suggest this although I'm sure you did it on your own. This is exactly what I think the board needs. Makes the list more relevant. Great work!

Any list not updated in the past 3 months is no longer looked at for the Albums of the Moment overall list. This will help keep things fresh. What do you think, is this the right way to go? It's not like we're lackin' for albums, the 100 for this list is still all filled out: http://www.favorite10.com/overall/100/ARN/music

Feedback?

Yeah, somehow I skipped right from OK computer to Amnesiac and never gave Kid A much of a thought. I listened to the NPR podcast of the Santa Barbara Bowl show and was impressed by a few songs I hadn't heard before so I looked 'em up and they were almost all from Kid A. This stuff is amazing. I can't get enough.

Narrow Stairs is too good not to have it up top.

Conchords were great. I wish i was a little closer because they speak in hushed tones sometimes but overall - great time.

Hard not to put Narrow Stairs at the top isn't it?

How was Flight of the Conchords?
Posted by vin on May 06, 2008 08:36 AM
But to see all those bands in one spot (including Bon Iver) is just too good to pass up if you can make it out there!
Posted by stevemc on Apr 25, 2008 02:01 PM
Yeah I was thinking that they were too close together. But I am not missing Radiohead. And wilco in such a small venue was too hard to pass up.

I am not wondering whether I should skip Outside Lands since I would have seen both my two favorite bands so close to the show.
Posted by vin on Apr 25, 2008 01:58 PM
No - saw that you scored tickets. With the wife & kids - I can only manage so many concerts and since Wilco is 2 days before Radiohead - have to pick my battles (just like the DCFC vs. REM issue)

I checked out Grizzly Bear. They kinda remind me of old school Pink Floyd sometimes. Which is kinda ironic as I always think of Radiohead as the new Floyd.

You going to Wilco in Delawhere?
Posted by vin on Apr 25, 2008 01:03 PM
Be nice - wouldn't it. Actually - I've heard Grizzly Bear is terrific. I haven't given them a chance. Have you?
Posted by stevemc on Apr 15, 2008 06:58 AM
no problem.

you're gonna have a hell of a time finding 3 tickets in the seated section unless you want to pay through the nose. I saw an auction end on ebay sat morning for $250. for mediocre 200 level seats too. good luck. by the way, i see you've moved bon iver up. can we sub him out for Grizzly Bear as the opening act?

Vin - thanks so much. I committed to getting tix with two friends who currently have lawn seats and we'll try to upgrade but since I need 3 tix now - I'll have to pass. Thanks again for thinking of me. I really appreciate it.
Posted by stevemc on Apr 15, 2008 06:03 AM
steve i got 2 tickets for you to radiohead if you want them.

actually, choose between lawn ($105) and Sec 202 row V (last row baby!) for $150.

I'll be sitting up front with my WASTE tix. :)

oh and if you don't want them, no big deal. I don't think i'm gonna have any problems getting rid of these.

Yeah, it's a new feature. Just launched it today.

You're totally right about Fiona Apple. Extraordinary Machine was a bit of a let down and it's still better than 95% of the albums released by others in the past few years. I don't understand why Fiona isn't more successful. A phenomenal voice, writes her own music, great lyrics. And she's hot! What the hell is the problem here folks?

I see this Sara Bareilles chick EVERYWHERE and if you put her hit song against something like Fiona's "Red Red Red", it's laughable.

Like the white board. Cool feature I didn't notice before.

I agree for the most part. It certainly is raw in terms of songwriting and I don't think you'll find many at the level of Fiona Apple's songwriting (then again - maybe that's a good thing since Fiona can't seem to get out of her way these days while a young artist like Adele may be able to grow). Glad you are enjoying it though. SOme of the songs have very powerful vocals. While it isn't my favorite of the moment - I know you enjoy some good female songstresses. (sp?)
Posted by stevemc on Apr 10, 2008 08:55 AM
yo steve. I checked out Adele. Thanks. Pretty good. Certainly better than Lily Allen. Reminds me a little of the Sia album. just a little.

I think the problem with most young female singer songwriters is that they tend to have really bad lyrics and fall back on cliches. I haven't heard anything to make me cringe yet through a few listens. The other problem is that they'll never measure up to Fiona Apple's first album at 19 which was spectacular.
